The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

He was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album his work was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues arising from water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations received funding support in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from shows in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

In the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the band would donate their winnings to the charity the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she shared her award between multiple organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," the artist shared with the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the local youth club that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And winners that year they contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," stated vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the other in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the buildings.
